Servicing your John Deere 6140M starts with the right part. This page shows more than 300 items for the 6M series, such as lighting and steering parts.
Play in the steering, a slipping belt, a worn hitch: the jobs that come up on a John Deere 6140M are fairly predictable, and the more than 300 parts recorded for this model cover them in your own workshop.
Begin with the type plate on the tractor, which carries the model and serial number. Within the 6M range a part can differ between versions, so that is your starting point. The reference number on the old part removes any doubt, and on a V-belt the length and number of ribs are usually printed on the back.
For coupling up there are ball hitches, automatic drawbars, drawbar frames, flange hitches and trailer couplings, plus forced steering parts for steered trailers. Brands include ROCKINGER, Scharmüller, Walterscheid and Sauermann.
The steering side has complete ball joints for left and right. On the engine you will find V-belts, O-rings for the fuel line, an air sensor and oil seals. The fuel tank can be fitted with a lockable filler cap. Bushes, for example for the fender, work lamps, grab handles and plugs make up the rest.
A new track rod end always changes the toe setting, however carefully you copy the old length. Count the turns as you unscrew the old one or measure it, set the new joint to the same length and then have the toe-in checked. Use a new split pin in the castle nut and tighten the lock nut on the track rod properly. A front axle that is out of alignment eats tyres.
If the engine draws air or you smell diesel around the filters, look at the fuel line O-rings. They harden over time and seal differently when the engine is warm. Renew them at every joint you open and clean the fitting first so no dirt gets into the system. A lockable filler cap keeps out water and dust as well as unwanted hands, provided its seal is intact.
Each model in this range has its own page with the parts recorded for it:
The 6115M and 6175M also belong to the 6M range. For every other model, go to John Deere parts.
