Replacement parts for the John Deere 6820 from the 6020/6020SE series: more than 700 items for this model, including trailer couplings, lighting and electrics.
Coolant temperature creeping up or oil weeping from the thermostat housing are typical jobs on a 6820 that has done its hours. This page lists more than 700 John Deere 6820 parts, and a good share of them sit in or around the engine: thermostats, radiator hoses, the gasket for the regulator housing and O-rings such as the one for the oil pump. Alternators and engine sensors, including the oil pressure sensor, cover the electrical side.
If the oil pressure warning comes on while the engine sounds healthy, check the actual pressure with a mechanical gauge before replacing anything. When the reading is fine, the sender or its wiring is at fault. When fitting a new thermostat, always use a fresh housing gasket and bleed the cooling system properly afterwards. An air pocket at the thermostat produces exactly the same symptoms as a stuck one, so a careful bleed saves you a second strip-down.
The external plates for the ZF front axle are easy to overlook. When the front axle judders or clicks on tight turns, worn plates are a common cause. Replace them as a complete set and refill with the oil specified for that axle, or the noises will come back.
At the rear of the 6820, the parts cover drawbar balls, drawbar frames in John Deere green and forced steering parts for steered trailers, from ROCKINGER and Sauermann as well as GRANIT. For the cab there are gas struts and HELLA work lamps, and for the driveline universal joints and hose sold by the metre. Wabco is one of the brands too.
A universal joint on its way out usually announces itself with a clunk when pulling away. Grip the shaft with both hands and twist the halves against each other. Any play in the cross means it is time for a new one, before the bearing cups wear the yoke.
Start with the type plate to confirm you are working on a 6820 and not a neighbouring model from the same series. If the old part is still fitted, look for a reference number stamped or printed on it. On alternators compare the flange and mounting, on sensors the connector and thread.
Each of the other models in the 6020 series has its own page listing the parts assigned to that model: the John Deere 6620, John Deere 6520, John Deere 6420, John Deere 6320, John Deere 6220 and John Deere 6120. For everything across the brand, go to John Deere parts.
