John Deere 8520 parts for hitching, the cab and the engine bay

A John Deere 8520 rarely runs empty. There is a heavy tipper, a semi trailer or a big cultivator behind it, so this page starts at the back of the tractor. You will find drawbar balls and drawbar frames, Walterscheid PTO shaft ends and air brake connector heads for the trailer lines. There are also parts for forced steering systems, needed when the trailer behind you has a steered axle. More than 200 replacement parts fit this model, made by GRANIT and by suppliers such as ROCKINGER, GRAMMER, Walterscheid and HELLA.

Red and yellow air brake couplings

Red goes on the supply line, yellow on the control line. If a coupling hisses once you have hooked up, look at the rubber seal inside the head before anything else. Years of connecting and disconnecting make it hard or split, and swapping it takes minutes. When the valve inside the head is damaged, replace the complete connector head. Keep the dust covers shut whenever nothing is attached, so dirt and water stay out of the lines.

Seat, lighting and engine bay

For long days in the cab there are air suspended tractor seats from GRAMMER, including the Maximo Professional. Work lights from HELLA and GRANIT, such as an LED flood beam, light up the yard and the field when the job runs past dark. Under the hood the list covers alternators, thermostats, sensors, V-belt tensioners and a good number of seals, sealing rings and gaskets, such as the gasket for the turbocharger oil return line.

A workshop check for the belt tensioner: take the belt off and spin the idler pulley by hand. If it feels rough or has play, the bearing is worn. A tensioner that has lost its spring pressure lets the belt slip, and the alternator stops charging properly. Ideally you replace tensioner and belt together.

Matching John Deere 8520 parts to your tractor

Start at the serial plate and make sure it really says 8520. The tractor belongs to the John Deere 8020/8020T series. Your safest guide is the number stamped into or printed on the old part. Compare that reference number with the details shown for each product on this page. For a seat, measure the mounting under the cushion first, so the new one bolts straight onto the console.

If you run more tractors from the same series, each one has its own page with the parts that fit it: the John Deere 8320, the John Deere 8420 and the John Deere 8220. That saves guessing which part belongs to which machine. If a smaller or older green tractor works alongside the 8520, start from John Deere parts for that machine.
