More than 250 parts fit the John Deere 6170M from the 6M series. Among them are trailer couplings, lighting and engine components for this tractor.
On a lot of farms the 6170M is the tractor that does a bit of everything, from mowing and feeding to road haulage. That mix of work shows in the parts it gets through. This page brings together more than 250 parts that fit the 6170M, from GRANIT, ROCKINGER, Sauermann, Walterscheid and Scharmüller.
If the PTO slips under load or engages with a jolt, the internal plates of the PTO clutch are a likely cause, and they are available here as separate parts. For the shaft out to the implement there are universal joints, including versions with central lubrication, and there are camshaft bushes for the engine. A tip for greasing a universal joint: keep pumping until fresh grease appears at the seal of all four bearing cups. If one cup stays dry, that bearing is running without lubrication and will fail early.
At the rear you will find ball drawbars, drawbar frames, adapter plates and connector heads for the trailer air brakes. Running a trailer with forced steering? The parts for that system are here too. For work that starts before daylight there are work lights, including long range driving beams.
Keeping the engine dry often comes down to small parts such as fuel line O-rings, oil filler cap seals, plugs and tank caps. An air temperature sensor is also available. Inside the cab, handles that have worked loose or snapped after years of climbing in and out can be replaced.
Air brake connector heads have a hard life on a tractor that swaps trailers several times a day. A split rubber seal in the head lets air out and dirt in, so replace the head as soon as you hear a hiss when coupling up. On a drawbar frame with a ball hitch, clean and lightly grease the latch now and then so it keeps closing fully. And when fitting a new work light, a smear of dielectric grease in the plug keeps moisture away from the contacts.
Check the serial plate and confirm it reads 6170M. Models in the 6M series look very much alike, and that quick look saves ordering for the wrong machine. If the old part carries a number, compare it with the reference number listed with the product.
Other models in the series each have their own page, which helps when there is more than one M tractor in the yard:
