On a John Deere 6220, a good share of routine work happens at the front of the engine. Belts, the alternator, the starter motor and the thermostat housing gasket all come due at some point. You will find them on this page together with more than 700 other John Deere 6220 parts for this member of the 6020 series.
Multi-rib belts and belt kits for the 6220 come in two versions, one for tractors with air conditioning and one for tractors without. With air con the belt also drives the compressor, so it is longer. Take a quick look under the bonnet before you order. A belt with shiny flanks or cracks between the ribs should come off even if it is not slipping yet, and a noisy tensioner pulley or one with play is worth changing at the same time.
Alternators and starter motors are listed in several versions. For an alternator, look at the mounting form and the flange. For a starter, count the teeth on the pinion and check the direction of rotation. If the alternator stops charging, test the earth cable and the belt tension first. A slipping belt can look a lot like a failed alternator.
At the back there are drawbars, including ball hitch versions, and drawbar frames finished in John Deere green. For trailers with forced steering you will find the ball pieces that go with it. The linkage is covered with lift arms and bushes, the front axle with ball joints. Work lamps, such as oval spotlights, keep the yard lit at night. External plates for the PTO clutch, seals, gaskets and O-rings complete the picture, down to the O-ring for the fuel tank sender. Check the balls of the forced steering every season as well. A scored or out-of-round ball makes the trailer judder in corners and knocks the steering rod about.
The parts come from GRANIT, HELLA, ROCKINGER, Sauermann and MAHLE.
The data plate tells you if you really have a 6220, and the old part often carries a reference number to compare against.
