When you replace a valve cover gasket, clean the face of the cylinder head until it is completely dry with no old gasket material left, fit the new gasket without sealant and tighten the bolts in a cross pattern with a steady hand. If the clutch has to come out, check the pilot bearing in the flywheel while you are there. It is a small bearing, but you can only reach it with the tractor split. If it feels rough or sounds dry, replace it then, together with the rear crankshaft seal if that is weeping oil.
