Take a photo of the belt routing before the old belt comes off, so the new one goes on right first time. Check the pulleys for rust and worn grooves, and spin the tensioner by hand. If it feels rough or makes noise, replace it now. When the air conditioning V-belt sits in front, renew that one at the same time.

Flood beam work lamps light a wide area close to the tractor, which is ideal for hitching up or working around the clamp. Mount them as high and as far out as the bracket allows to cut down shadows from the wheels. If the starter turns slowly or only clicks, measure battery voltage while cranking and check the earth cable first. A leaking hydraulic pump shows up as oil collecting along the flange. Clean everything thoroughly before replacing the seal so no grit gets into the pump. A leak at the crankshaft calls for a new crankshaft seal, often together with the front cover gasket.
