More than 250 parts fit the Deutz-Fahr Agrotron M 640, made by GRANIT, HELLA, ROCKINGER, Walterscheid and Scharmüller. They cover the engine and injection system, the lighting, the cab and the complete rear hitch.
For the engine there are valve cover gaskets, O-rings for the injection pump, seals for the hydraulic pump and fuel pressure sensors. Starter motors and aircon compressors are here as well.
A valve cover gasket only seals as well as the surface it sits on. Remove every trace of the old gasket without scratching the aluminium, degrease the face, then tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern. Overtightening squeezes the gasket out and brings the oil leak straight back.
A fuel pressure sensor that sends a wrong reading leaves the engine pulling poorly or starting hard. Before replacing it, check the plug for moisture and bent pins. When fitting a new sensor, clean the area thoroughly first, as dirt in the high pressure side does serious damage. Tighten it to the specified torque, not by feel.
The rear takes automatic drawbars, Piton Fix hitches, top drawbars, drawbar frames and adapter plates. These come in more than one rail width, so measure the frame on your tractor before ordering.
If the roof window will not stay open, a tired gas strut is the usual cause. Swapping it takes a few minutes and saves you a draughty, noisy cab.
A starter that only clicks is not necessarily faulty. Measure the voltage right at the starter while someone turns the key. If it drops sharply, the problem lies with the battery or the cables. Before condemning the aircon compressor, check its magnetic clutch and coil, since a clutch that no longer pulls in is a common reason the air stays warm.
The type plate confirms the model and gives the serial number. For sensors, gaskets and the aircon compressor, the reference number on the old part is the quickest route to the right product.
