The type plate on a D 6807 gives the model and serial number, which is how you tell it apart from the closely related tractors in the same family. For shaft seals and bearings, measure the old part, inner diameter, outer diameter and width, and compare. Starters, alternators and clutch plates nearly always carry a manufacturer reference on a plate or stamped into the casing. Write it down before you strip the tractor.
Splitting the tractor is the bulk of a clutch repair, so fit a new thrust bearing every time, even if the old one still sounds quiet. A bearing that starts to whine a month later means doing the whole job twice. While the halves are apart, check the rear crankshaft seal as well. A weeping seal will soak a brand new clutch plate in oil before long.
Vague steering is not always the steering box. Have someone rock the wheel from side to side while you watch the front axle. If the ball moves in its socket before the wheel responds, the ball joint is due. Set the toe in again once the new joint is in. When fitting brake shoes, look at the drum too. A scored or worn drum means new linings only make contact on a narrow strip, and always renew shoes axle by axle so the tractor brakes straight.
