Servicing a Deutz-Fahr 5110 from the 5 series? This compact overview lists more than 50 parts for it, including trailer couplings, lighting and electrics.
On plenty of farms the Deutz-Fahr 5110 is the tractor that does a bit of everything: feeding, haulage, mowing and the odd heavy trailer. The parts that fit it reflect that mix. More than 50 are available for this model, from Walterscheid, GRANIT, Sauermann, HELLA and GRAMMER among others.
If you tow on a ball, there are ball drawbars and ball hitches, together with top hitches and Piton Fix rails for a fixed pin. Adapter plates, support plates and an inner part for forced steering let you match the coupling point to the trailer you run. Keep a ball hitch greased and check it for wear now and then, because a dry ball quickly wears out the socket on the trailer.
Under the bonnet the 5110 can take a fuel feed pump, radiator hoses and air hoses to the intercooler, plus a remanufactured turbocharger. When you swap the turbo, renew the oil feed line, inspect the charge air hoses and let the engine idle for a while after fitting so the new turbo is oiled before it sees revs. A radiator hose that feels soft or swollen is better changed in the yard than burst in the field.
LED tail lights and indicators keep the tractor visible on the road. Springs and fender brackets help when a mudguard has been knocked out of line by a gatepost.
Air gets into the fuel system after a long standstill or when the tank runs dry, and the feed pump then has to refill the lines. When fitting a new pump, prime the fuel filter with clean diesel and bleed the system in the order the manufacturer gives before you try to start. Do not crank the starter for minutes on end to pull fuel through, as that only drains the battery. Once the engine runs, check that the pump connections stay dry.
The type plate confirms the model. For hitch parts, measure the rail and pin on your own tractor. For hoses and the feed pump, hold the old part next to the new one and compare the connections and the reference number, which on hoses is often moulded into the rubber in small print.
