Blue smoke from the turbo, a clutch that slips under load, a cab door that will not latch. On a Valtra 6400 with plenty of hours behind it, these are familiar jobs. The same tractor also goes by the name Valmet 6400 and belongs to the Mezzo range. On this page you will find more than 180 parts that fit it, from GRANIT, DANA Spicer, Scharmüller, GRAMMER and Walterscheid.
For the engine there is a remanufactured turbocharger, a feed pump with separate seals and O-rings, an alternator and a stop cable. If the engine keeps running after you pull the stop control, a stretched or seized stop cable is a common culprit.
Before fitting a turbocharger, find out why the old one failed. A blocked air filter or a kinked oil feed line will destroy the new unit just as quickly. Pour a little clean engine oil into the turbo oil inlet before the first start, then let the engine idle for a while before putting it to work.
Clutch plates are here for when the clutch starts to slip. While the gearbox is split, inspect the flywheel for fine cracks or blue heat marks, which mean the face needs attention as well. There are O-rings for the differential, plus seal kits and repair sets to deal with leaks before they spread. On the steering side you will find ball joints and a bolt set for the steering valve.
Inside the cab there are air suspended tractor seats, a left hand door lock and a flasher unit. At the rear, a drawbar with a ball lets you couple trailers with either a ball drawbar or a towing eye.
If the charge warning light stays on, do not replace the alternator straight away. Check the drive belt tension first and make sure the cables on the alternator are tight and show no corrosion. Only when those are fine is the alternator itself to blame. An indicator that suddenly flashes much faster than usual nearly always means a bulb in that circuit has blown, so check the bulbs before you change the flasher unit.
The type plate may say Valmet or Valtra, while the model number 6400 stays the same. A reference number on the plate or on the old part is the surest way to choose the right version. Related tractors from the same range each have their own page:
