Pull dump trailers or a heavy ball-coupled trailer with a Valtra N 154 and there is a whole system hanging off the back: support plate, ball, pick-up hitch and often forced steering as well. There are K80 ball hitches, a drawbar with ball, a screw-in ball adapter, pick-up hitch inserts and support plates for the ball. A ball hitch wears on its contact face. Keep the ball lightly greased and measure it now and then. Once it has visibly flattened or developed a ridge, fit a new ball, even if the rest of the tractor is running perfectly. For steered trailers there are forced steering parts and a Piton Fix.
Under the bonnet you will find a radiator hose for the bottom of the radiator, temperature sensors and a NOX sensor. A new hose deserves new hose clamps. After refilling, run the engine up to temperature with the heater valve open and top up until no more air bubbles rise. There are also pressure pipes, return lines and seals for a pressure pipe.
Return lines and pressure pipes in the fuel system need prompt attention once they leak. Diesel on a hot engine is a fire risk, and a leaking return line can let air into the system so the engine starts poorly. Renew the seals on a pressure pipe every time you undo it, and hold the fitting with a second spanner while tightening so the pipe itself does not twist.
A lockable fuel cap and rear-view mirrors round off the list.
With a lockable cap, a tractor left overnight at the edge of a field still has a full tank in the morning, and a decent mirror makes reversing up to the ball far less of a guessing game.
