Known as both the Valtra 6600 and the Valmet 6600, this Mezzo series tractor has more than 150 parts here, from steering and front axle to trailer couplings.
Play in the steering, a cab door that will not latch, a weeping feed pump. Those are typical jobs on a Valtra 6600, a member of the Mezzo series that is also known as the Valmet 6600. More than 150 parts fit this tractor, from GRANIT, Scharmüller, GRAMMER, Walterscheid and DANA Spicer.
For the front axle there are ball joints, and for the main clutch there are clutch plates. Gear wheels and O-rings, including ones for the differential, complete this group. The quickest way to check a ball joint takes two people. One rocks the steering wheel back and forth with the engine running while the other holds a hand on the joint. If you feel a click before the wheel moves, the joint is worn. Replace a torn dust boot along with the joint, otherwise the new one will soon run dry.
The feed pump draws diesel from the tank and pushes it to the filter. If it weeps at the flange, a new seal is often enough. If the engine runs rough and you see air bubbles in a clear line, the pump itself is worn. After fitting, work the hand lever until the filter is full before you start. The water pump repair set lets you refresh the existing pump instead of buying a complete new one. Coolant dripping from the small weep hole under the pump means it is time. A stiff stop cable just needs a few drops of thin oil, but replace it at once if the inner wire is fraying, because a snapped cable leaves you unable to shut the engine down the usual way.
For the cab there are door locks, tractor seats, work lamps, indicator position lights and a flasher unit. If the indicators suddenly flash twice as fast, a bulb has usually failed rather than the flasher unit, so check the bulbs first. At the back, a drawbar with ball for the hitch rail fits this model.
The type plate shows whether your tractor is badged Valtra or Valmet 6600, as both names are in use. For the feed pump, water pump or a door lock, the number on the old part tells you which version you need. With door locks, also note which side, left or right, you need.
Each of these models has a page listing the parts recorded for it:
