Keep the Valtra 605 running: for this tractor, also known as Valmet 605, the page lists more than 60 parts such as engine parts, electrics and steering.
If the bonnet says Valmet 605, you are in the right place too, as it is the same tractor as the Valtra 605. This page has more than 60 parts for it, the kind an older tractor asks for, from wheel brake cylinders and seals to the alternator and stop cable.
For the brakes there are wheel brake cylinders and repair sets for the brake cylinder. For the clutch there is a clutch plate.
Brake cylinder tip: a repair set with new rubbers only works if the cylinder wall is still smooth. If you see pitting or rust in the bore once it is apart, fit a complete wheel brake cylinder instead. Bleed the brakes afterwards and check that both sides bite evenly.
An alternator, a starter motor and a connection cable keep the electrics going, and a flasher unit with holder is here as well. The stop cable shuts the engine down and on an older Valmet it is often stiff or frayed. Replace it once the engine no longer dies straight away when you pull it. Route the new cable without tight bends, or it will soon turn stiff again.
Engine parts include an oil sump gasket, a rear crankshaft seal, a feed pump, water pump seals and radiator hoses. A coolant temperature sender passes the reading to the gauge on the dash. Ball joints for the steering are here too. The makers include GRANIT, MAHLE, VDO, Cobo and HELLA.
If the battery is not charging properly, check the belt tension and the wires on the alternator before replacing it. A slack belt slips, particularly in cold and wet weather, and a loose wire looks just like a failed alternator. With radiator hoses, look at the clamps. On an older tractor they are often rusted and no longer grip properly, so even a new hose ends up leaking.
Check the type plate to confirm it is a 605. On older tractors the plate is sometimes painted over or hard to read, and then a number on the old part, such as on the feed pump or gasket, points you to the right replacement.
The 605 sits in a line of models that each have their own page, handy if several Valmets or Valtras share the yard:
Newer Valtra tractors and the rest of the brand are under Valtra parts.
