Valtra 6550 parts, also sold as the Valmet 6550

Plenty of owners still call it the Valmet 6550, and that name turns up in workshop paperwork as often as Valtra does. This page holds more than 140 Valtra 6550 parts from GRANIT, DANA Spicer, Scharmüller, Walterscheid and GRAMMER, from seal kits and turbochargers to door locks, ball joints and work lamps.

Engine and turbo

Engine parts include remanufactured turbochargers, exhaust manifold seals at the turbo, engine sensors and alternators. Most turbo failures after a swap come down to oil supply. Clean or replace the oil feed line, pour a little fresh engine oil into the turbo oil inlet, and let the engine idle for a while before putting it under load. Always use a new seal between the turbo and the manifold, since a reused one soon leaks exhaust gas.

Cab and lights

For the cab there are tractor seats, including air suspended models, and door locks for left and right. Lighting parts include work lamps, indicator and position lights and flasher units. If the indicators suddenly flash at double speed, check for a blown bulb before you replace the flasher unit.

Steering, driveline and hitch

For the steering and front axle there are ball joints, balls, bolt sets for the steering valve and seal kits. O-rings are listed too, including ones for the feed pump and the differential. At the rear there are ball drawbars for the rail.

Seal kits and the steering valve

When something on the 6550 starts to weep, it is tempting to change only the ring that is visibly leaking. A complete seal kit puts every seal in that assembly back at the same age, so you are not back a few months later for the one you left in. Work as cleanly as you can, because a single grain of grit behind a new seal will score the running surface on the first stroke. For the steering valve there are bolt sets. Tighten the bolts on a valve like this in a cross pattern and in stages so the body sits evenly on its seal without distorting. If the steering feels heavy after the job, check that the valve is not binding before looking elsewhere.

Finding the right fit

Take the serial number from the type plate and compare it with the reference number on the old part. With the 6550 that check is worth doing, because some parts carry the Valmet name and others Valtra. Other models from the Hitech range have their own pages: Valtra 6350, Valtra 6750 and Valtra 6850. The Valtra 8950 belongs to the same series. If another Valtra shares the yard with this 6550, look under Valtra parts.
