A whistle under acceleration or blue smoke from the exhaust on an N 92 usually points to the turbo or the manifold. Before changing the turbo, inspect the intake side too, because anything drawn in will damage a new unit just as quickly. There are remanufactured turbochargers, exhaust manifold seals for the turbo connection and manifold gaskets. Before the first start, prime a new turbo by filling it with clean engine oil through the oil feed, then let the engine idle for a few seconds without touching the throttle. That way the shaft never spins dry. Check the oil feed and return pipes for dirt and kinks too, because a blocked line is a common reason the old turbo failed in the first place.
Cylinder head bolts, crankshaft seals, feed pump O-rings, sealing rings and thermostats complete the engine group. If the head comes off, fit new head bolts and tighten them in stages in a crosswise pattern. They stretch when tightened and will not give the same clamping force a second time. A thermostat always goes back with a clean gasket face and the right way round.
Headlights, LED headlights for dipped and main beam, and work lamps keep visibility good. A flasher unit with holder sorts out indicator problems, provided the bulbs themselves are fine. Door locks cover the cab, and for towing there are drawbars with a ball and separate balls for the rail.
After replacing a headlight, aim it against a wall so you do not dazzle oncoming traffic. A stiff door lock works far more smoothly if you grease the lock and striker when fitting the new one. Keep the hitch ball lightly greased too, which also reduces wear on the trailer eye.
Check the type plate to confirm you have an N 92. With a turbo, the number on the turbo's own label is what matters, so compare that with the details shown with the item. For gaskets, compare the bolt pattern with the old one.
