A Valtra T 163 spends much of its life under heavy load, and that shows in the parts it gets through: cooling components, lights and the hitch. There are more than 120 replacement parts for this tractor from GRANIT, Scharmüller, DANA Spicer, Walterscheid and BOSCH.
The cooling system is covered by thermostats, radiator hoses such as the top hose, a fan clutch, an electric cooling fan and temperature sensors, plus a tensioning pulley and gaskets, for example on the turbocharger.
When the temperature creeps up, start with the simple checks. Squeeze the hoses with the engine cold. One that feels soft or swollen can collapse or split under pressure. Then listen to the tensioning pulley with the engine running. If it hums or visibly wobbles, the belt slips and the water pump and fan no longer turn at full speed. Always fit a thermostat with a new seal.
If you switch from halogen to LED, check afterwards that the warning lamp on the dash still behaves correctly.
For towing there are ball type drawbars and separate balls. In the cab you can replace the door lock. Engine items include seals, such as the one on the pressure pipe, and O-rings, for example for the oil filler cap.
After fitting new headlights, aim them against a wall so oncoming traffic is not dazzled. LED units have no filament, so they cope better with vibration, which you notice on a tractor that spends its days on rough ground. A sticking door lock sometimes just needs lubricant, but if the mechanism has play a new lock is the better fix. Replace drawbar balls once they show a visible flat on top, because that is when the trailer eye starts to knock. A temperature sensor giving false readings can make the electric fan cut in late, so test it whenever cooling trouble appears.
